Technical details
We have focused on developing ingredients and products that can alleviate the symptoms of atopic dermatitis, noting that as environmental pollution has become more serious recently, the number of patients suffering from atopic dermatitis has been increasing. Nowadays, with the emphasis on low carbon, insects have been in the spotlight as a future food source and an eco-friendly raw material. Also, according to a scientific study, mealworm was known to may have potential as a therapeutic agent for the treatment of skin wounds. Accordingly, we succeeded in developing and patenting a product formulation containing Mealworm oil and Grasshopper oil, and our product is excellent at relieving severe itching, dryness, and sensitivity caused by atopic dermatitis with just a few uses. We have used only 100% Korean edible insects grown in clean Jiri Mountain and fed with maclura ferment enzyme(pesticide-free vegetables) effective in easing atopic dermatitis. The product contains 47% Chamaecyparis Obtusa Water instead of purified water, Natural SW, and Four Seaweed Extracts to reduce skin heat and soothe sensitive skin immediately upon use. The product has a soft and stretchy formulation to increase moisturizing effect and it does not feel sticky although it contains oil ingredients.

What sets your product apart and why is it innovative?
What sets this product apart from other products is its efficacy. Many products on the market are advertised as effective for atopic dermatitis, but in reality, most products mainly contain moisturizing ingredients such as ceramide, not much effective for atopic skin that requires high level of moisturizing and soothing. However, this product contains edible insects, a patented ingredient excellent for improving skin wounds and atopic dermatitis, providing amazing skin improvement after just a few uses. Our clinical study shows that compared to before use, the degree of itching caused by skin dryness and skin moisture content improved significantly by 62 and 67% respectively after 2 weeks of use. Additionally, the innovativeness of the product lies in the uniqueness of its ingredients, which are not often used in other cosmetics. The combination of edible insect oil rich in protein and amino acids, 47% cypress water without the use of purified water, and EWG green-level ingredients containing seaweed extract gives the product a competitive edge. Thus, due to the safely designed formulation, both adults and children can use the product. How do you promote your product on multiple channels?
1) Social media: As trendy the marketing method these days is social media promotion, we have continuously increased the media exposure by collaborating with well-known influencers, and models. In many countries including Europe, a lot of famous influencers, actors, and celebrities have been posting reviews on their social media. Recently, both product inquiries and sales have increased a lot as many influential celebrities with 200,000 to 300,000 followers post positive reviews of products on social media (such as Instagram or Youtube) after using the product.
2) Salon activities: In many countries, including Korea, we have provided training and demonstrations to salons and aestheticians on how to use the products. Salons can use the product as a body massage cream or a regenerating cream at the last stage of skin care. Of course, consumers use it as a home care product after receiving treatments at salons. We have invited salons owners to educations seminars/VIP events to let them try our products and have more information/marketing materials on them. As this is a premium cosmetic, we usually hold the events/seminars at luxury hotels. Recently, the product has become famous among estheticians and is now used as a spa product at Andaz Hotel Prague.
3) Magazine: As this product is a luxury premium line, we have advertised it in magazines(Vogue, Luxury, Harpers Bazaar, Top Fashion Magazine, Forbes, Glanz, etc.) that mainly write articles about luxury products. As companies and products introduced in these magazines attract attention from many consumers and aestheticians, magazine advertising is also one of the main methods of promotion. 4) In-store activities: Most of consumers want to try products first before purchasing them online or in offline stores. As prevalence of atopic dermatitis has been increasing worldwide, we have focused on developing ingredients that can effectively improve atopic dermatitis in a short period of time. And we noted the skin regeneration and wound healing effects of edible insects which contain abundant protein and amino acids, and developed a formula that can be safely and effectively applied to cosmetics. We also succeeded in obtaining a patent in Korea in 2020 which relates to a composition for the prevention, treatment, or improvement of atopic dermatitis, comprising mealworm oil and grasshopper oil as active ingredients. Our efforts over several years have been recognized with the patent because we overcame the side effects of conventional atopic dermatitis treatments, such as inhibition of epidermal growth, excessive stimulation, dilation of capillaries, and increase in the thickness of the stratum corneum, by selecting ingredients with a combination of specific edible insects using abundant insect resources and extracting oil. We saw new possibilities in edible insect oil, which was not generally of interest in cosmetics, and eventually successfully produced and launched a best-selling product. This product has received rave reviews for its effectiveness from consumers, and has continued to sell out since its launch.
How does your product meet the evaluation criteria of its category?
1) Product claims and benefits: The biggest competitive edge of this product is the effect after use. As environmental pollution worsens and life stress intensifies, the number of people with atopic skin is increasing worldwide, but it has been difficult to improve atopic skin with existing moisturizers alone. Atopy mainly occurs in infants and children, but it can also occur in adults due to stress and decreased immunity. When atopy occurs, an eczematous skin disease occurs with symptoms such as severe itching, erythema, and oozing. Our product improves these symptoms in a short period of time because the patented edible insect oil, which is rich in protein and amino acids, heals skin wounds, reduces skin itchiness and skin loss caused by atopy, and makes the skin moist. In addition, it contains cypress water and four seaweed extracts excellent for anti-inflammation and cooling to quickly soothe reddened skin, making suitable for use even on sensitive skin.
2) Innovation: Insects have been widely known as a future food resource for its high protein content, but we have obtained a patent for applying these eco-friendly insects to cosmetics. We saw the potential for environmental protection and excellent skin improvement in insects, which were not often used in cosmetics, and eventually developed them into cosmetic ingredients, creating a product that improves atopy, extreme skin dryness, itching, and sensitive skin in a short period of time. We use only insects hygienically cultivated in Korea’s clean Jiri Mountains, and in particular, insects are fed with Maclura ferment enzyme effective in easing atopic dermatitis, which is why our product is ahead of other products in terms of efficacy. Usually, considering the cost of a product, it is difficult to exclude purified water, but we prioritized superior efficacy over cost and used quite expensive cypress water 47% instead of purified water. This formular not only environmentally friendly, but also maximizes the synergy effect with edible insect oil. Atopic/sensitive skin often lack moisture, so we developed a stretchable texture to further increase the moisturizing power of the product. This stretchy texture is not sticky at all despite oil ingredients and provides fun to customers, which is also our own innovative formulation technology that is difficult for other manufacturers to easily copy. What is you brand commitment to sustainability, ethical practices, and social responsibility? Please describe.
1) We have been conducting systematic and scientific research and development from the perspectives of planet beauty, skin Health, and clean performance. From the stage of formulation development and raw material sourcing, we have strived to produce skin-friendly products that exclude ingredients harmful to the skin, as well as earth-friendly products that value a sustainable environment. The edible insects contained in this product are an example. Edible insects, including mealworms, emit almost no carbon emissions from breeding to processing, effectively reducing carbon emissions. In addition, we have ISO 14001 certification of environmental management system and produce products in compliance with environmental regulations. When conducting tests related to product safety and efficacy, we have not conducted any animal testing. We have also made efforts to select recyclable containers for product packaging as much as possible, and have made efforts to reduce waste during product production every year. In particular, as a wastewater treatment facility is established in our factory, we have purified the wastewater and disposed it rather than disposing it right away.
2) Ethical practices are also followed when producing products. For example, workers have been trained to always put the environment and consumer safety first when working at a factory. In addition, we are establishing safety rules and providing safety tools, safe workplaces, dustproof clothing, and sanitary hats so that workers can produce products safely. In order to ensure the life and work balance of workers, we have not forced them to do unreasonable work or overtime, and recognize them as our partners rather than just employees.
3) Our brand considers social contribution and responsibility as important values, and every year, we have sponsored organizations and institutions in need and supported our products for them. We have donated and provided goods support to various welfare organizations such as the Korea Single Parents Association, Holt Children’s Welfare Association, Korea Deaf Association, etc. We have been providing scholarships every year to 23 students with financial difficulties for 6 years, and some of them have earned doctoral degrees.
